Comdr. L.S. Whitwam R.N. died 17th Nov Life storyLife storySarah was born in Golcar, Yorkshire, the daughter of Richard and Anne. She was baptised at St John the Evangelist church, Golcar on 4th June 1865. Her father was a woollen manufacturer. Anne died in September 1875. On 5th April 1880, Richard married Mary Crosland. He died of pleurisy on 12th October the same year. Mary was a teacher and by 1891, she was principal of a ladies school in Gomersal, Yorkshire. Sarah and her siblings lived with their step-mother. After Mary's death, Sarah lived with her siblings in Cleckheaton. Sarah died on 17th May 1920. At the time, she was living in Chaucer Road, Worthing. Probate was granted on 19th July to Midland Executor and Trustee Co Ltd. Effects £1138 17s 5d. Sarah's sister Marian Whitwam is also buried at Heene.
