Life story

Sarah Jane Capey was born in Leicester, in 1854, her parents were, George Capey, 29yrs, Elastic Webb Weaver, and Jane, 26yrs, nee Howe, she was 1 of 8 children.

On 4th July 1876, Sarah married John William Watts, 22yrs, an office clerk, at St. George's, Leicester. They had 4 children, Florence A. b.1878, Gertrude E. b.1880, Frank E. b.1882, and John E. b.1893. John had begun his career as a clerk and at 26yrs he was a collector of rates; over the next 20 years he progressed to an assistant overseer and general district rate collector. Their son, Frank, meanwhile, having been a house and estate agent from the age of 19yrs, became a property auctioneer and in 1911, his father and younger brother, John, both worked as auction assistants.

At some point after 1911, John and Sarah moved to Worthing, Sussex, where Sarah died, aged 62yrs, she was buried at Heene cemetery on 3rd March 1917.
