Life story

Sarah Ann Churchyard was born in Benhall, Suffolk, in 1829, to William Churchyard, 23yrs, and Harriett, 23yrs, nee Smith; her father was an agricultural labourer. In 1841, Sarah, 12yrs, was the eldest of 8 children, William 11, Dan 9, Betsy 8, Henry 6, George 4, Mary 2, and Emily 1.

On 19th April 1852, Sarah, 23yrs, now a domestic servant, married Aine Trim, 27yrs, a labourer, in Moor Critchell, Dorset, where they lived and had at least 8 children over the following 20 years. Sarah was widowed in 1887 when Aine died, aged 62yrs. In 1901 she was living alone in Worthing at Elm Grove where she died later that year on 30th July.
