Life story

Life story

Sarah was born in Abinger, Surrey, the daughter of Ambrose and Jenny. She was baptised in Abinger on 13th July 1806. Her father was a tailor. On 25th December 1828, Sarah married George Teesdale, a fly proprietor at St Nicholas Church, Brighton. The couple moved to Worthing, living in Field Row. In 1859, Sarah's husband took over the licence of The Nelson Inn in South Street. However, the licence was withdrawn two years later and George went back to his old  job. Sarah had eight children, some of who followed George into the fly business. (A fly was a one horse, two wheeled carriage for hire). The family moved to New Street where Sarah died in May 1875. No probate. George died in 1879 and was buried beside Sarah at Heene.
