Life story

Sarah Williams was born in Pagham, Sussex, in 1823 to Richard and Sarah Williams, she had an older sister, Caroline. In 1841, the family lived in Goring, she was 18yrs old, her father was employed at a Coast Guard Station. In 1849, aged 26yrs, Sarah married Alwin Street, 27yrs, in Worthing. In 1851 they lived as lodgers at the home of the Dennis family in Broadwater, Alwin was a Police Officer, Sarah was a Dressmaker and they had a daughter, Selina, aged 1yr. They moved from Worthing to Guildford and then to Portsmouth where Alwin was employed as a Railway Porter before returning to Worthing where he became a Gardener. During this period, they had another 6 children, Alan, Seymour, Julia, Alwin, Rosina and William. They lived at 6, Heene Mews, Worthing.

By 1891 Sarah and Alwin, 69yrs, and family, had moved to 6, Milton Street, Worthing, he was now a Bath Chairman as was their son, Alwin Richard, 30yrs. 

In 1901, Sarah, 77yrs, now widowed, lived with 3 of her unmarried children, Alwin Richard, 40yrs, Rosina, 36yrs, and William, 33yrs, at 19, Milton Street, Worthing. Sarah Street died in 1910, aged 85yrs.
