Life story

Life story

Sarah Ann Hiscock was born in Alweston, Dorset, she was baptised on 12th March 1836 at Hooke, Dorset. Sarah was the daughter of John Hiscock, blacksmith, and Charlotte.

Sarah had a daughter, Emily Harriet Short, in 1860, in Chelsea, Middlesex.

On 4th April 1870 Sarah married Charles Honess, 29yrs, at Broadwater, Worthing, Sussex, he was a seaman in the Royal Navy, they had a son, William, in 1873. Charles, after leaving the navy, was employed as a builder's foreman. The family lived at 36, Park Road, Worthing, and in 1891, Charles was a lamp lighter, and their son, William was employed as a draper's assistant. In 1904, at the age of 31yrs, William died from tuberculosis, and 4 years later, in 1908, Sarah was widowed when Charles died, aged 68yrs.

Sarah's daughter, Emily, had married a Worthing builder, Arthur Ashling, and in 1911, Sarah was living with them in Rowlands Road. Sarah died, aged 89yrs, and was buried in Heene Cemetery on 23rd August 1922.
