Life story

Life story

Sarah was the fifth child of Henry Reeves, a ship's joiner and his wife Sarah nee Courtney. She was baptised at St Nicholas Church, Brighton on 2nd February 1848. Sarah worked as a cook for the Field family of Oriental Place, Brighton. She married Allan Greening in April 1894 in Portsea, Hampshire. They were married for over 20 years but had no children. While in the Army, Allan was treated for venereal disease and this may be the reason but Sarah was also much older than Allan. She was 47 when she married him. Sarah died on 12th November 1920 and was buried beside Allan who had died in 1917. Probate was granted on 15th February 1921 to Henry Edward Reeves shipwright and Ellen Burtenshaw (wife of Philip Burtenshaw). Effects £657 8s 9d.
