Life story

Life story

Sarah was born in 1794 in Sheffield, Yorkshire. Her maiden name was Ellison and she married Matthew Coxon of Hickleton on 16 December 1826. They had a son, John, and a daughter, Sarah. After 12 years of marriage, Matthew died. By 1841 Sarah and her children were living in Broom Spring Lane, Sheffield. In the 1861 Census, Sarah is still at the same address, described as a Proprietor of Houses'. However, by 1871 she was of independent means' and living at 13, Barnsbury Park, in Islington, London. At the same house were two men and a cook. One of the men was Sarah's son-in-law. Stavros Delburoglare, a 53-year-old merchant, born in Turkey but a naturalised British citizen. The other man was Andrew Sordina, a 20-year-old Greek by birth who was a commercial clerk and Stavros's nephew. Sarah died on 24 September 1877 and was the 37th person to be buried at Heene.
