Life story

Rose Fanny Cobbold was born in Walton, Suffolk, she was baptised on 4th October 1860. Her father was Horace Cobbold, 36yrs, farmer of 227 acres, and her mother, Katherine Sarah, 28yrs, nee Haward. In 1871, Rose had 8 siblings, Louisa b.1854, Florence b.1856, Alice b.1857, Emily b.1859, George b.1863, Horace b.1864, Eva b.1867, and Octavia b.1870.

Aged 21yrs, Rose married William Lumisden Strange, 24yrs, on 3 Dec 1881 in Ahmadnagar, Bombay, India, he was a civil engineer working for the Public Works Department in Madras. They had 3 children, Frank Horace b.1884, (India), Nora Kathleen b.1885, (India), and James Anstruther b.1893, (Suffolk).

William and Rose retired to Worthing in 1911 where they lived at St. Olaves, Boundary Road. In 1929, Rose was widowed when William died on 7th February, aged 71yrs. She moved to 12, Park Avenue, Worthing, where she died the following year, on 11th September 1930, aged 70yrs. Probate was granted to her daughter, Nora K. Stanley (wife of Edward Gower Stanley), effects £10087 18s 3d. Value 2021 - £676K.
