Life story

Life story

Rose was born in 1859 in Kensington London to Henry James Marmion and Rose Bramall.  Rose's Father Henry worked as a solicitor and the family lived at 2 St. James Square, Kensington, London.

Rose married Sidney Beckwith Smith in 1881 in Steyning Sussex. By 1891 they are living with Rose's parents at 7 Sussex Garden, Eastbourne, Sussex. Sidney is working as a Stock Exchange Broker. He applied and was accepted to be a member of the stock exchange in 1878.In 1894 Sidney went into partnership with James Searle under the name James Searle and Co, however in 1898 he was declared a defaulter on the stock exchange (meaning when a trader fails or is unable to pay within the specified time the damages and money difference due on a closing out effected against him.).

There is no record of Sidney or Rose having any children, and by 1901 Sidney is a patient at 20 De La Warr Parade Bexhill, which was a home run by Dr Wills for patients with consumption.

Sidney and Rose were living with Sidney's aunt, Maria Caroline Revell in 1911 at Penrith Downview Road Worthing.  Sidney was now working as a secretary at the Brighton, Hove and Preston Dispensary, Sidney died on 31st January 1913 after a long illness which was presumably his consumption.

Rose Dalton Smith lived at Fairways hotel, Victoria Road Worthing in 1939 and died there on the 3rd January 1945. She left £3276 1s (£116455 in 2020)
