Life story

Life story

Rosamund Swire Bramley was born in Addingham, Yorkshire, where she was baptised on 8th December 1844. She had 2 older sisters, Elizabeth, 8yrs, and Anne, 3yrs. Her father was Henry Alcock Bramley, 55yrs, property landlord, and her mother, Elizabeth, 39yrs, nee Cooper.

On 10th September 1867, aged 22yrs, Rosamund married a clergyman, Charles Wyatt-Smith, 26yrs. at Alverstoke, Yorkshire. They had 2 children, Henry b. 1869 and Rosamund b. 1870, and the family lived at Walmersley, Lancashire, where Charles was the Vicar. By 1881 they had moved to Wandsworth, London, their son, Henry, was at school in Christchurch, Hampshire, and in 1883 he was tragically drowned in a boating accident, aged 14yrs.

Rosamund and Charles continued to live in Wandsworth until 1900, when Rosamund died, on 19th May, aged 55yrs, in Worthing, Sussex. Probate was granted to Rosamund Wyatt-Smith, spinster, and Sydney James Gammell, Esquire. Effects £3750 9s 11d. Value 2020 - £436K.
