Life story

Life story

Roger John Wright was born in Mattishall, Norfolk, on 31st March 1849, he was the son of Rev. Henry Wright, 33yrs, Rector of Thuxton, and Susanna, 40yrs, nee Dix. He was 1of 6 children, William b.1840, Anna b.1841, Bertha b.1844, Arthur b.1845, and Dora, died in infancy 1848.

Like his father, Roger chose a church career, he graduated from Queen's College, Cambridge, and was ordained Deacon in September 1873 at the Cathedral Church of Ripon and Priest in 1875.  In 1874, aged 25yrs, he married Charlotte Walter, 34yrs, at Totnes, Devon. They had no children.

Roger served in parishes in Yorkshire, Norfolk and in Ireland before moving to Worthing. In 1891, Roger and Charlotte were living in Madeira Avenue, Worthing, Sussex. Roger was licensed as a Preacher for the Chichester diocese in 1892. By 1911 they had moved to Shakespeare Road and before his death in 1924 they were living at 19, Thorn Road. Roger was buried at Heene on 22nd August, aged 75yrs.
