Life story

Robert Foster Shattock was born in Peckham on 14th October 1835, he was baptised at St. Giles, Camberwell, on 6th November 1835. His father, Henry Mark Shattock, 38yrs, was a Civil Servant, his mother was Mary Shattock, 32yrs, nee Foster, Robert had 3 older siblings, Henry 10, Mary 9, and Thomas 7. In 1851, he was 15yrs old and now had 10 siblings.

In 1868 he married Emma Eliza Theresa Browning, 20yrs, on 8th October at Redditch, Worcester. They had two children, Ida Pauline Frances, 1869, and Cyril Vernon, 1870, both born in Pimlico.

Robert was a career civil servant in the public works department, they lived in Kensington and then Norwood before moving to Worthing after he retired. In 1901, Robert and Emma lived at St. Agnes, Manor Road, and on 2nd January 1905, Robert died, aged 69yrs.

Probate was granted to his widow, Emma, effects £2355 5s 4d. value 2020 - £288K.
