Life story

Robert Pilkington Jackson was born in Warrington, Lancashire, to George Jackson, 29yrs, and Martha Anne, 31yrs, nee Pilkington, he was baptised on 5th February 1869. Robert had 2 older brothers, George Horace, 5yrs, and Herbert Morris, 2yrs, their father was a Pawnbroker. By 1881, Robert's father had died, and the business was continued by his mother and brothers. In 1888 Robert joined the British Army and was commissioned on February 11th, aged 19yrs. The following year he was promoted to Lieutenant, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, on 31st July. Robert was posted to Bangalore, India, where, in 1892, he married Euphemia Stoddart McCartney, 20yrs, born Kingston, Canada). In 1894 their first son, Cyril Robert Jackson, was born on November 14th, in Bangalore. In 1906 Captain Robert P. Jackson, aged 37yrs, was promoted to Major, 73rd. Carnatic Infantry, and returned to Britain where he retired from the Army. In 1908, a second son, Robert Jackson, was born in Southport, Lancashire, and in 1911 the family was living in Herefordshire, where Robert's older son, Cyril, 18yrs, was at boarding school. Robert and Euphemia moved to Boundary Road, Worthing, where Robert died on 30th January 1914, aged 45yrs. His death certificate gave the cause of death as Fibroid Heart, Heart Failure. Probate was granted to Herbert Morris Jackson, and Euphemia Jackson. Effects £8302 7s 9d. Value 2020 -£964K.
