Life story

Muriel Emily Randall (nee Williams) was also known as Emily Muriel Randall and was born in 1870 in Llandovery Carmarthenshire Wales to William and Ann Williams.  William worked as a Watchmaker, and in 1881 was living at Market Street Llandovery Carmarthenshire Wales. Muriel Emily was working as a Milliner. By 1891 the family are still at Market Street and William is shown to be a retired Publican at the Golden House. 

Muriel married Herbert Watson Randall on 17th December 1899 at St Andrew church Plymouth Devon. Herbert served with the Royal Naval Reserves from 1898 where he was an acting Lieutenant.

He served on the Forte which was a twin screw cruiser in 1901 and he was a Lieutenant, sailing to the Cape of Good hope and the West Coast of Africa stations. 

Although retired from the Navy in 1913, he returned during WW1. He was captain of auxiliary small crafts that were tasked with minesweeping and anti-submarine patrols round the British Isles.

In 1918 he was promoted to acting commander on SNO Scilly. He received an honour for bringing SS Persie into naval base St. Mary's after she had been torpedoed on 7th November 1918. He retired at the end of WW1 

Muriel and Herbert had 1 child called Herbert Silvester Francis Saer Randall born 29th August 1900 St Clears Carmarthenshire. Herbert served in the royal Airforce during WW1. He married Alyce I S Thomas in 1919 in east Preston Sussex. In 1939 he was living in Sale Cheshire and worked as an Electrical Engineering Surveyor for a Mill and air Raid Warden.  There were no records of any children being born. Herbert died in 1953 in Stockport Cheshire 

Between 1911 and 1918 Muriel and Herbert moved to Venetia Harrow Road Worthing Sussex. Muriel died on 18th February 1919 in Worthing of Bronchitis, her Son Herbert was present at the death. 

On 23rd April 1919 Herbert had married again to Mary Violet Rhys Hand in Latton Wiltshire. They lived on Hayling Island, Hampshire. 

Herbert died on 11th April 1940 while living at Flat 24 western parade Southsea Hampshire.

Mary died on 29th August 1954 while living at 32 Southsea Terrace, Southsea, Portsmouth.
