Life story

Montague Neale Mellersh was baptised on 4th May 1864 at St. Mark's, Reigate. When he was 7yrs. old he had 5 siblings, Matilda 8, Percy 4, Janet 2, Florence 1 and Edwin 2 months. He lived with his father, Frederick, 43yrs, a Brewer and Coal Merchant, employing 18 men, and his mother, Matilda 36yrs, nee Neale, at Reigate Road, Surrey, they employed 3 domestic servants. As a teenager, Montague attended Judd House, a private school in Tunbridge, Kent. In 1887, aged 23yrs, he married Lucy C. Sergeant, 22yrs, at St. Matthew's, Redhill, on 13th July. Montague was also a Brewer in Reigate and he and Lucy had 3 children, Dorothy, Ida, and Oswald. By 1901 they had moved to Worthing and lived at Puckaster, Grand Avenue, employing 2 domestic servants. Montague Neale Mellersh died, aged 41yrs, on 15th November 1905 at Puckaster, Grand Avenue. Probate was granted to his widow, Lucie Charlotte and Charles Attersol Smith, Solicitor. His effects of £8138 14s 4d value 2020 - £996K. His death certificate gave the cause of death as Acute Phlebitis 2 months. Cardiac Embolism 1 hour. Syncope.
