Life story

Life story

Miriam was born in Pimlico, London in 1869, the daughter of William and Jane Farnham. Her father was a warehouseman but later worked for the Civil Service. The family moved to better areas as William gained promotion. As a young woman, Miriam worked as a draper's assistant. By 1901, the family were living in Milton in Kent and it was here that Miriam married George Henry Eden on 26th February 1901 at Holy Trinity Church. George was a retired Naval Officer. The couple moved to Worthing, living in Windsor Road (later called Rugby Road). A son, Hugh Morton Eden was born on 28th June 1903. By 1911, the family had moved to "The Gull" in Boundary Road, Worthing. Miriam died after a long illness on 20th August 1919. No probate. George moved to Hove and died in 1922. He was buried with Miriam at Heene. The photo on this page shows Miriam's gravestone which was removed when George was buried. It was not replaced.
