"Verse 2 Timothy lV v.3" Also of our beloved mother Charlotte Victoria his widow entered her rest Feb 28th 1926. Verse. Also of Elva Mary Alice their eldest daughter fell asleep May 20th 1935. Also of their beloved daughter May Ethel passed on Jan 18th 1960

Life story

May Ethel Beckles 1874 - 1960 May Ethel Beckles was born in Worthing, Sussex, on 10th May 1874, she was the daughter of the Reverend Henry McLeod Beckles, 28yrs, Rector of Heene, and Charlotte Victoria, 25yrs, nee Dodson. May had 4 siblings, Elva b.1868, Agnes b.1871, Eustace b.1872, and Margaret b.1881.

May remained single, she took part in many church activities, especially fundraising, and after the death of her father, she remained with her mother and sisters living in Worthing. After the death of her mother, May and Elva lived together in Tarring, and at some point after Elva's death in 1935, May moved to Paignton, Devon, where she died on 18th January 1960, aged 86yrs. Probate was granted to Christopher William Robert Garbett, of no occupation, effects £6571 4s 11d. Value 2024 - £189,650.
