Maud was the third of five children born to the family. Pauline Marie Annie 1881, Louise Ayton 1882, Maud Alice was third born in 1884, Son John Ayton in 1885 and finally daughter Constance Ann 1886. Constance Ann dies the following year 1887 aged 1. Maud's Grandfather was James Mann and he married Maria Louisa Isdell (grandmother). Maria's sister Sophia Isdell married Col William Thomas Robinson. Sophia and William adopted Eugenie (Maud's mother) from India and raised her as their child. This is how she has come to meet John Ayton Mann and marry him in 1881. When Maud was 4 years old her father dies leaving her mother to raise four children. Her mother continues to raise the family on her own means until she dies in 1902. Sister Louisa marries in 1905, Sister Pauline and Brother John both marry in 1908. Maud remains single and by 1911 is living in Worthing in a boarding house living on her own means. Brother John Ayton marries Priscilla Brine and starts working as an Agent for a metal Merchants, and then owns his own business Mann J Ayton and Co Ltd.
