Life story

Mary Rose was born in Puddlestone, Herefordshire, on 15th April 1816. Her parents were Reverend Edward Joseph Rose, 33yrs, and Lydia, 28yrs, nee Babington, She had 3 siblings, Lydia b.1812, Edward Joseph b.1818, and Eliza b.1820.

Mary, 22yrs, married Canon Edward Thomas Vaughan, M.A., on 1st January 1839, at Barrow on Soar, Leicestershire. They had 6 children, Mary Agnes b.1840, Ellen Lydia b.1843, Lucy Alice b.1849, Edward Thomas Rose b.1851, Mary Rose b.1852, and Charles Edwyn b.1854.

Her husband's clerical career saw them living in Leicestershire, Shropshire and Hertfordshire, and in 1896 Edward retired and they moved to Worthing, Sussex, living at St. Martin's Lodge, Richmond Road. Mary was widowed in 1900 when Edward died, aged 86yrs, and the following year, she also died, aged 85yrs, on 14th August 1901.

Probate was granted on 21st October to Charles Edwyn Vaughan Esq, Ellen Lydia Vaughan spinster and Henry Tylston Hodgson Esq. Effects £1315 5s.
