Mary Grace Simpson was a widow, aged 64yrs, who died on 1st May 1890 at 2, Brunswick Esplanade, Worthing. (Now Thorn Road)

No next of kin were traced and five years after her death her estate of £100 went to the Crown in 1896.

In 1896 a letter to the press from Sidney H. Preston, Solicitor of 27, Chancery Lane, listed the names of all the deceased whose unclaimed estates went to the Crown in that year, including Mary Grace Simpson.

He wrote

If the advertisements for next of kin were in future issued in a more attractive form, stating the value of each unclaimed estate, no doubt missing heirs would quickly come forward.

In 1895, the total of unclaimed estates totalled £125,275 Value 2024 - £20,600,000.
