Mary Elizabeth Pinninger was born in 1847 in Blackfriars, Surrey, to [parents unknown].
On the 3rd November 1867, Mary and a James Knight were married in West Tarring, Sussex. Her first census record is that of 1871 where she was living with James as well as a daughter, Emily J Knight who was born in Goring by Sea in 1869. Their address is given as Broadwater St only.
In the 1881 census, there is still only James, Mary and Emily living together in Broadwater with the nearest address being Lyons Farm.
In the 1891 census, Mary and James were living at 3 Madeline Terrace, West Tarring but there is no sign of their daughter Emily, only a visitor named George Hassell, aged 4, otherwise known as George Beamish Hassall Knight. Records tell us that he is the adopted son of James Knight.
No occupation was ever listed for Mary and sadly in 1896, she died aged 50 years in December. She was buried in Heene Cemetery on the 12th December 1896.
