Mary was born in Gravesend, the daughter of Charles and Faith Mary. She was baptised in Gravesend on 14 April 1833. Her father was a labourer. In 1851, Mary was a servant in Finsbury, London. By 1860, she was living in Broadwater and on 11 November, she married Henry Goodger at Broadwater Church. Henry was a widower with three children. For a while, the couple lived in Washington but by 1871, they had moved back to Worthing where Henry worked for the Heene Estate Company as a gardener. Henry and Mary had eight children. Henry died in November 1892. Mary continued to live in Brunswick Road, taking in laundry and working with her daughter Amy. She died in June 1907. No probate.
