Life story

Life story

Mary was born in Clewer, Berkshire, the daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth. She was the sister of Herbert and Kathleen who are also buried at Heene. Her father was a cook who committed suicide in 1879. For details of this story, see Herbert Cullingford. Mary lived with her mother and brother. The family lived for a while in Battersea before settling in Willesden where Herbert worked as a master butcher. After their mother's death, the trio moved to Worthing, living in Ariadne Road in 1924. They lived firstly at "Suncroft" and then at "Northover". Herbert died in 1935 and the sisters moved to Thornton Heath in Surrey. Kathleen died in 1937. By 1939, Mary was a patient in Graylingwell Mental Hospital at Chichester. She died here on 6th July 1941. Probate was granted on 15th May to Dorothy Elizabeth Simmons, wife of Harry Richard Simmons. Effects £6038 10s 10d.
