Life story

Martha was the wife of James Henry Mackenzie William, born Bengal, 1853.

James trained as an engineer from the age of 21yrs, attending Thomason College, originally called The Roorkee College, it was established in 1847 as the First Engineering College in the British Empire. The College was renamed as The Thomason College of Civil Engineering in 1854. James was an employee of the India Public Works Dept., rising from an assistant engineer in 1874 to an executive engineer in 1884, retiring in 1908, aged 55yrs.

James had married Martha Roseina, probably in India, and after his retirement they moved to Worthing, living at Narora, 19, Ripley Road. Martha was widowed in 1929, and she died on 12th May 1937 in Worthing Hospital.

Probate was granted to the Westminster Bank and Daisy Stuart William, widow.                        Effects £2448 16s 4d. Value 2020 - £168K.

The Last Will and Testament for Martha William was dated 18th Mary 1933.
