Marion Stransom was born in Uxbridge, Middlesex, on 14th April 1861; her parents were John Henry Stransom, Estate Agent, Auctioneer /Valuer, 33yrs, and Annie Frances, nee Shoppie, 33yrs. (Often spelt Shoppee) She had 4 sisters, Ada Florence, b.1858, Minnie Ellen, b.1863, Laura Sophia, b.1864, Octavia Gertrude, b.1865 (died 1867), and a brother, John William, b.1867.
Marion's father died in 1875, and in 1881, aged 19yrs, she was working as a governess and living with her widowed mother and sister, Ellen.
On 28th September 1886, aged 25yrs, Marion married Arthur Pelham Caley, 25yrs, at St. Andrew's Church, Fulham. Her husband was a branch manager for the Norwich Union life insurance company. They had 6 children, Arthur H. b.1887, Albert Sidney b.1889, (died 1918 in France on active service) Pelham Russell b.1891, (died 1917 in Belgium on active service), Hilda b.1893, Phyllis b.1897, and Eric b.1901.
Arthur and Marion moved several times after leaving Islington, in 1901 they were living in Streatham, and in 1911 they were in Barnes, Surrey. By 1921 they had moved to Surbiton, Surrey, and after his retirement, at some point, Arthur and Marion settled in Worthing, Sussex, where they lived at Bredon House, Manor Road.
Marion was widowed when Arthur died, aged 74yrs, on 4th November 1934. She later moved to 142, Broomfield Road, Worthing, remaining there until her death, aged 91yrs, on 26th March 1953, at Seadown House Nursing Home, Farncombe Road, Worthing. Probate was granted to Keith Alexander Buchanan Wilson and Arthur Cobby, solicitors, effects, £724 8s 7d. Value 2022 - £22,500.
