She never married, never had an occupation and always lived with either her mother or some other member of the family. Her father, Thomas Wardman, was a glue manufacturer. Her mother, Ann, nee Thornton, was widowed in 1855 and by 1861 she and Margaret were living in Gateshead but by 1871 Margaret was in Islington, London, in the household of her sister, Annie, married to a master mariner, Henry Wight. She lived with the Wights for the rest of her life. By 1911 they were at 5, Bath Road, Worthing. Margaret died in 1917.
