Life story

Mabel Annie North was born on 13th March 1884 in Chichester, Sussex, the daughter of Thomas Harry North, 45yrs, Police Constable, and Annie, 34yrs, nee Hills. She was the eldest of 4 children, Edith Alice b.1886, Frederick Gordon b.1889, and Charles b.1891.

She lived with her family for most of her life and remained unmarried. At 17yrs, Mabel was apprenticed to a milliner and then she was self-employed, working at home, as a needlewoman.

In the 1920s she moved to Worthing, Sussex, with her mother, Annie, who died in 1928. Mabel remained in Worthing, and in 1939 she was living at 8, Eton Road, where she stayed until her death.

On 15th June 1960, Mabel died at 26, Cowper Road, Worthing, aged 76yrs. Probate was granted to Frederick Gordon North, retired civil servant, and Edith Alice Prentice, effects £2109 3s 11d. Value 2022 - £51,700.
