Mabel was born in the village of Sherbourne, Warwickshire, the daughter of John and Mary Anne. She was baptised there on 31 Jan. Her father worked on a farm as a waggoner. Mabel suffered from a spinal curvature from childhood (Census records). The family moved from Warwickshire to Worthing before 1911. John had a nursery in Lansdowne Road where he grew fruit. Mabel died on 15 Sep 1913. from influenza and cardiac failure.

The Bungalow in Lansdowne Road was later replaced by Kenilworth House Flats. Mary died in 1916 and John in 1919. Both are buried at Heene.
