Life story

Life story

Lydia was one of a large family born to George Morewood, a merchant, and his wife Ellen Pierpoint nee Barrow. She was baptised at Newington, Surrey on 13th September 1815. In 1841 and 1851, the family were living in Derbyshire. George died aged 90 in 1854 and Ellen in 1858. They were buried in the family tomb at Ashford, Derbyshire. Lydia went to live with Margaret Clark in Croydon, Surrey. In 1881, Lydia was living with her cousin Harriet Dalgairns and her family in Margate, Kent. She is described in the census records as "childish". She remained with the family for the rest of her life. At the time of her death aged 90, the family were living at 4 Heene Terrace, Worthing. No probate.
