Life story

Lucy Catherine Berkely Calcott (nee Nisbet) was born in 1855 in Bothwell,  Lanarkshire, Scotland, to John and Lucy Sarah Nisbet (nee Gibson).  Lucy's Father, John, worked as a Corn Factor for the Baltic Corn Exchange, buying and selling corn on behalf of others. At some point he became a Judge of the Voluntary Arbitration Court of the Corn Exchange, which would involve hearing disputes raised by parties before or after approaching the court of law.  In 1881 Lucy was living with her parents at 53 Widmore Road, Bromley, Kent where she met Lewis Berkely Calcott and married him in 1883. Lewis was a Surgeon, and after  passing his final exams with credit he joined his Father as a partner in his Father's practice. 

They had one child called Pauline born 1890 in Oundle, Northamptonshire. 

In 1891 Lucy was staying with her parents at 53 Widmore Road, Bromley, Kent, but her Husband and Daughter are living at West Street, Oundle, Northamptonshire.

Lucy's parents retired to Worthing between 1891 and 1899 and lived at 11 Heene Terrace. 

Lucy and her Husband also moved to Worthing and lived at Caynham Lodge, Byron Road. Lewis Berkely Calcott, died on 21st November 1893, aged 38yrs. at home in Worthing.  The cause of death was given as General Paralysis of the Insane, Convulsions, Coma. 

By 1901 Lucy and her Daughter Pauline had moved back in with Lucy's parents at 11 Heene Terrace, Worthing. After her parents died, Lucy moved to Caynham, Instow in Devon, where she died on 18th February 1936, she left £3486 16s 1d (£176,609 in 2020) with probate to Pauline Cathcart (Daughter) and her Nephew  Cyril Edward Nisbet (Solicitor) 

Pauline Calcott, Lucy and Lewis's Daughter married George Elliot Cathcart in October 1919. George was a Major with the Royal Army Medical  Corp.  He was a medical inspector of recruits and a medical expert with the training. They had 2 children.   He died on 10th September 1930 in London, Pauline died in 1974 in Tiverton, Devon.
