Louisa Figgins was born in North Waltham, Hampshire, in 1854, she was the daughter of Peter Figgins, 38yrs, a farmer of 16 acres, and Hannah, nee Tilbury. She was the youngest of 6 daughters and her mother died shortly after she was born. Her father married Mary Prior in 1857.
In 1871, when Louisa was 17yrs, she was living with her brother-in-law, Thomas, in Weeke, Winchester, and her sister, Susan, and infant son; she was working as a barmaid. In 1873, Susan died, aged 29yrs, a year after the birth of her second son, Frank. Two years later, on 30th December 1975, Louisa married her widowed brother-in-law, Thomas Saunders, 30yrs, at St. John Evangelist, Lambeth, London. He worked as a waiter. In 1877, their daughter, Lilian, was born and in 1886 Louisa was widowed when Thomas died, aged 41yrs.
On 29th June 1889, Louisa married James Tennant, Staff Instructor, late of the Garrison Gymnasium, in Southsea, Hampshire, she then moved overseas and lived in Shanghai for many years.
At some point, Louisa, now widowed again, returned to Worthing, living at Chaonfoong, Shakespeare Road. She died at the Groombridge Nursing Home, Chaucer Road, Worthing, Sussex, on 7th May 1916, aged 62yrs.
Louisa left effects of £60, value 2023 - £6,600. Probate was granted to her daughter, Lilian Florence Reynolds, widow.
