Life story

Life story

Louisa was born in Chelsea, the daughter of Henry and Emily. She was baptised at St James Church, Westminster on 15th February 1863. Her father was a veterinary surgeon. As a young woman, Louisa worked as a teacher and then a governess. In 1881, she was working in Kimberworth, Yorkshire and lodging at the station master's house where she met George Jarvis who was working as a clerk on the railway. Louisa moved up to Scotland, working as a governess at Penninghame House near Wigtown and it was here she married George. The wedding took place at All Saints Church, Penninghame on 17th January 1883. George's job took him all over the country and his family went with him. They lived in Ipswich, Exeter (where Louisa gave birth to Louise) and Heaton Moor. By 1926, the family were living at "Melgarth" in Wallace Avenue. Sadly Louisa's daughter Louise died in this year and in 1928, her son Reginald died after a long illness. Then at the end of December 1930, Louisa was widowed. Her husband, son and daughter were all buried in Heene Cemetery. Louisa died on 27th January 1931. Probate was granted to her son Arthur Stopford Jarvis bank manager.
