Obituary

Obituary - Worthing Gazette 27th January, 1926.

Death of Mr Leonard Beaumont - A Pleasing Personality

It is our painful duty to record the death at the comparatively early age of 36, of Mr Leonard Beaumont, which occurred at the residence of his mother, 26, Christ Church Road, on Wednesday last. Mr. Beaumont was the younger son of the late Mr. Charles Beaumont, who died about eighteen months ago, and who was for many years in business as a coal merchant in High Street. That business is now carried on by his elder son, Mr. Charles Beaumont. The deceased, who had been unwell for a prolonged period, was taken more seriously ill about six weeks ago, with the fatal termination recorded above. Mr. Beaumont who was of a particularly happy disposition, was very well known locally, and was at one time in partnership with his brother in the coal business, but at a later period he went to America, where he spent about ten years. When he first went to the United States he joined his uncle on a peach ranch, after which he was in several of the States, and was at one time located in Salt Lake City. Later on he went to California, being for some time in business in San Francisco; and during the Great War he joined the American Army though his regiment did not see duty overseas. About five years ago he returned to Worthing, primarily for a holiday; but owing to family reasons he did not return to the United States. He became engaged in the insurance business, and continued to be so occupied until sickness intervened. The late Mr. Beaumont, whose funeral took place on Saturday, leaves a mother, brother, and sister, to mourn the loss of a loving son and brother. Great sympathy will be extended to them especially by those who had the pleasure of Mr. Leonard Beaumont's acquaintance.
