Life story

Kathleen was born on the 12th August 1884 in Liverpool Lancashire to Robert and Agnes McCulloch.  Kathleen's Father Robert worked as a Stock and Share Broker.  Kathleen did not marry and lived at the family home.

When the 1891 census was taken Kathleen was staying with her Grandmother (Catherine Turner) at Barnhill, Wavertree, Bootle, Lancashire

In 1901 Kathleen is back living with her parents at 5 Nethershall Gardens Hampstead, London

By 1911 Kathleen's Mother has died and the family have moved to 138a Abbey Road, London

By 1939 Kathleen's Father has died and she is living at Homefield Cottage, St. Stephens road, Ealing, London

By 1957 Kathleen has moved to Worthing and is living with her friend/companion Doris Hopper at St. Ives Hotel, Heene Terrace, Worthing, Sussex. Kathleen fell at the hotel on the 3rd October 1957 and was sent to a nursing home where she died on the 23rd November 1957. The post mortem showed she died of Broncho-Pneumonia. Kathleen left an amount of £6930 to her friend Doris Hopper.

Worthing Gazette - 4th Dec 1957

Woman's death was from natural causes - A woman crippled by arthritis who fell at her hotel and was feared to have fractured her leg, was found after death not to have a fracture.

She was Miss Kathleen Mary McCulloch, aged 73. The deputy police surgeon, Dr. H. Rosenberg , performed a post mortem which revealed that death was due to natural causes.

A verdict in accordance with the doctor's finding was recorded at the inquest on Wednesday by the coroner, Mr F. F. Haddock, who said he had been told that the primary cause was broncho-pneumonia.

Miss Doris Hopper of St Ives Hotel, Heene Terrace, Worthing, said Miss McCulloch was her friend and companion. She was badly handicapped by arthritis and walked with the aid of sticks.

She fell on October 3rd and later was sent to the nursing home where she died on Saturday November 23rd.
