Life story

Life story

Kathleen was born in Woolwich, the daughter of John Matthew and Lucy Frances. She was baptised at St Mary Magdalene church, Woolwich on 20th July 1876. Her father was a retired physician. By 1881, the family were living in Honiton and John died here on 6th September 1881. Kathleen had two sisters Mabel and Caroline and after her husband's death, Lucy moved with the girls to Lewisham. Lucy died on 19th January 1892. The three daughters stayed together and moved firstly to Fulham and then to Henley-on-Thames. By 1914 the women were living in Worthing at "Asdean" in Harrow Road, later number 15. Kathleen died on 8th April 1924. Probate was granted on 18th July to Mabel Marion Gwendoline Butler and Caroline Helen Madeline Butler spinsters. Effects £969 11s 2d.

Mabel moved to Westbourne Avenue and died in 1949. Caroline moved to Church Walk and died in 1955.
