Life story

Life story

Kate was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, the daughter of John and Emma. She was baptised at Holy Trinity church, Rothwell on 5th October 1857. Her father was a wholesale linen draper. Kate boarded at the Moravian School for Ladies in Gomersal. She lived with her parents until 1902 when she married Rev. George Henry Butler at St Peter's Church, Huddersfield on 3rd July. After the wedding, Kate and George sailed for Canada on the "Lake Ontario". George had been born in Canada and served in the ministry mainly in Nova Scotia. By 1911, the couple were back in England living in Midhurst. In 1917, George took up the post of Chaplain of Bath Union. He and Kate lived in Coombe Down until 1922 when they returned to Sussex, living in Harting. George died after an operation in 1926. The couple were living at "Enderby" in St Valerie Road, Worthing. Kate continued to live there until 1938. She died on 3rd October at Amatola Nursing Home in Shakespeare Road. Probate was granted on 28th November to Midland Bank Exor and Trustee Co Ltd, Frank Victor Holdroyd engineer and Emma Fox spinster. Effects £12515 10s.
