Life story

Life story

Julie Geva's mother, also Julie, was French. Her maiden name was de Momet. Julie Geva's father, William Kemeys Miles Riddell, was a barrister, a gentleman and a lay preacher. Julie Geva was born on 6 December 1856 in Devon but was baptised at St George's, Hanover Square in London on 17 December.

The name Geva comes from the Hebrew and means hill. Julie Geva enjoyed singing and was a member of the Lynton Glee Singers. The North Devon Journal reported in 1871, when she was 15, that her voice was much admired and that the audience keenly appreciated and warmly received her performances.

At the age of 23 she married Frank Bevern Erridge, a bank manager and student of theology, at Dunster in Somerset on 1 September 1880. They lived variously in Devon and Somerset but in the 1921 Census Julie Geva and her daughter. Geva, were visiting Clothilde Burnett in Houghton, Arundel.

In 1926 her address was The Haven, Durrington, Worthing, but she actually died in Amatola Private Nursing Home, in Shakespeare Road, Worthing. She left £74 3s 7d to Geva.
