John Worgan was born on 6th August 1822 in Kentish Town, he was baptised at Old Street, St. Pancras, on 3rd September 1822. His parents were Thomas Danvers Worgan, 49yrs, a musician, and Margaret, he was their sixth child and first son.
John was named after his grandfather, John Worgan, an organist and composer, (1724 to 1790), one of the most highly respected musicians in London, of his day. Handel admired his playing and was quoted as saying, He shall sit by me; he plays my music very well at Vauxhall, (Pleasure Gardens). His grandfather had divorced his first wife, by whom he had six children, and married Eleanor, nee Baston, the mother of Thomas Danvers Worgan, John's father.

His youngest son, Henry, had married and was living in Ontario, where it appears that his mother, Susan, lived with him. Henry died in Canada in 1897, aged 37yrs, and his mother, aged 68yrs, died the following year, also in Canada.
