Life story

Life story

John was the first of the 13 children of William and Margaret Matilda (nee Orsmby) Wiley. He was born in Monkstown, Co. Dublin in 1837 and in 1871 he was a maker of railway carriages in Cumberland where he lived with his wife, Isabella, and 7 year old son, John. However, he changed careers and joined the Royal Irish Regiment (18th Foot) reaching the rank of Captain. By the time of the 1881 census he was living at 49, Marine Parade, Broadwater, with his father, William, and unmarried sister, Sarah. He died on 13 March 1890 at 3, Heene Villas, Heene Road, Worthing.
