Life story

John Edward was born to Edward William Penfold and Violet Bevers who married in 1904 at All saint's church in Oxford Oxfordshire. Edward William Penfold was a Clergy and the couple lived in Oxford. They moved to Chelmsford where they had their first son Edward John Penfold a year later in 1905. Second son Cecil was born the following year in 1906. By 1909 the family were living in Worthing at Southey Road and their third child, a daughter Joan was born in Worthing in 1909. In 1911 the family were living at Draycott Southy Road, Worthing, with three servants to support the family. The Father Edward William was a vicar in Worthing. Another daughter was born in 1911 Helen M, and finally completing the family of five children a son, Thomas Bernard Dixon born in 1915. In 1918 Son Edward John died in Worthing at the age of 12 and was buried in Heene Cemetery.

Siblings of John

While the remaining family lived in Worthing, Father Edward William Dixon Penfold was the vicar of Durrington Church and they lived at The Vicarage for many years. He became the Rural Dean of Worthing from 1936 and became known as Canon E.W.D Penfold. He had a Heart attack at home in 1947 and died.

Son Cecil marries and has three children and was a police officer. He spent a lot of time in Mombassa Kenya. His wife and three children also went there. Cecil returns with his family to live in Tunbridge Wells where he dies aged 86 in 1994.

Son Thomas travels to Cape town Africa in 1936 and is an Engineer. He returns to marry in 1939 and his Occupation is a provisional Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Navy in 1939. Thomas lived with his family in Hampshire where he dies aged 88 in 2003

Daughter Helen also travels to Mombasa in 1947 aged 35 and this is her intended place of Residence, but Helen returns to the UK in 1948. Helen never marries and dies in Worthing aged 93 in 2005
