Jeremiah, like his father, was now a Primitive Methodist Minister. N.B. Primitive Methodism was a major movement in English Methodism from about 1810, they saw themselves as practising a purer form of Christianity from the Wesleyan Methodist Church from whom they had split. Primitive Methodists were characterised by the relatively plain design of their chapels and Low Church form of worship. Gradually the differences between the two Churches became smaller and they eventually merged to become the Methodist Church of Great Britain. Obituary

Worthing Gazette - October 4th 1916.

The late Rev. J. Dodsworth. The facts connected with the death of the Rev. Jeremiah Dodsworth of Freda, Queen’s Road, who passed away in the street, with painful suddenness, were duly reported to the Coroner at Horsham, but as Dr. Lockwood had been previously in attendance and was in a position to certify the cause of death, an inquest was not necessary. The funeral took place on Monday, the interment at Heene Cemetery, where the daughter of the deceased gentleman lies buried, being preceded by a service at the residence in Queen’s Road. It was conducted by the Rev. W. J. Weare, Superintendent of this Wesleyan Methodist Circuit; whilst the service at the graveside was undertaken by the Rev. F. J. Birkett, Chaplain of the West Sussex Mark Lodge of Freemasons, of which the deceased was a member. Other representatives of the Lodge were Brother W. E. Wenban Smith (the Worshipful Master) and Brother T. J. Lyne (the Secretary). The circumstances of Mr. Dodsworth’s death evoked a sympathetic reference at the meeting of the Brotherhood on Sunday and it was learned that a letter was received by the Secretary (Mr. G. T. Paine) subsequent to his decease, having been posted only a short time before the fatal seizure.
