Jeannie Thomson Henry was born in 1880 in New Maud, New Deer, Aberdeen. Her parents were Alexander, 33yrs. and Isabella 23yrs, and she had a 3-year-old sister, Margaret Robertson. In 1888 Jeannie had a brother, Alexander, and in 1891 her parents were hotelkeepers at the Maud Hotel, New Deer.
In 1906 Jeannie was living in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, and she married William Alfred Watson on 9th August, they were both 26yrs of age, he was the local GP practicing in Huntly. In 1907 they had a daughter, Isabel Jean Watson.
They moved to Worthing, Sussex, in 1915, where William continued to be a GP, living and working at 7, The Steyne. Tragedy struck the family in 1918 when their daughter, Jean, died, aged 11yrs.
The following obituary appeared on the 12th July in the Aberdeen Weekly Journal:
On the 8th July, at 7, Steyne, Worthing, after a few hours illness, Jean 11yrs, the beloved only child of Dr. and Mrs. William A. Watson
William was a hugely popular and well-loved GP. In 1920 he and Jeannie moved from the Steyne to 76, Richmond Road, a large, imposing, Edwardian house where William continued his practice. They named the house, Huntly, after their home in Scotland.
In 1934, after 20 years as a GP, William retired aged 55yrs., due to health issues. They purchased a property at auction, Alveston, Manor Road, Worthing, for the sum of £2,450; value in 2019 - £173k.
Jeannie was widowed in 1937 when William died suddenly at home, aged 57yrs.
Jeannie Thomson Watson continued to live at Alveston, Manor Road, for a further 21yrs. until her death, aged 78yrs., on 21st June 1958. She left personal estate of £17,509 12s 6d.; value in 2019 - £405k.
