Life story

Jane (Jeannie) Meuter nee Adshead 1855 - 1932 Jane Adshead was born in Portsmouth to John Adshead, a gunner in the Royal Navy and his wife Mary Ann Worthington. Jane had two sisters: Mary Caroline, b. 1853 and Charlotte, b. 1862 and a brother, John, b. 1865. Jane, a drapery assistant, married Belgium born, Arnold William Robert Henry Meuter in 1877 at Portsea. Arnold, known as William, was a clerk for the Pacific and Orient Steam Navigation Company.

Jane and William had two children born in Malta: Gerhard William Kirton (1884 to 1912) and Edith Margaret (1887 to 1966). Gerhard died of tuberculosis when he was only 28.
