Story

Jane was born in Aberystwyth, the daughter of Hugh and Elizabeth. She was baptised in the local chapel of St Michael on Christmas Day 1846. Her father worked for a local solicitor. As a young girl, Jane worked with her sister as dressmakers. By 1871, she had moved to the south coast of England, working in service as a nurse. She was sometimes known by her middle name of Helen. By 1881, Jane was working in Hove but there is no trace of her in 1891 Census. In 1901, Jane was boarding in Camberwell, Surrey. The Census records showed that she was paralysed. Jane died on 3rd November 1908 at 35 Thorn Road, Worthing. This was a boarding house run by Jane’s sister Annie Elizabeth Singre and her husband Edouard. Annie died in 1912 and is also buried at Heene. Probate was granted to her sister Margaret on 4th December 1908. Effects £136 10s 4d.
