Life story

Life story

Jane was the daughter of John Dunmill and Mary Ann nee Halt. She was baptised on 12th February 1841 at Hadleigh. She did not marry but her sister married James Peck and their daughter Gertrude Elizabeth Jane was mentioned in Jane's probate announcement. In 1861, Jane was a housemaid in the household of Edward H Rogers, the Vicar of Thames Ditton, Surrey. By 1871, she had become his housekeeper, holding the position for almost the next 20 years. By 1911, she had moved to Foxley Lodge, Rowlands Road, Worthing, living with Gertrude Peck. Gertrude was Jane's carer by 1921, as she was by now an invalid. Jane died at Foxley Lodge on 15th October 1924 aged 84. She left an estate of £453 16s 8d. Probate granted on 6th December to Gertrude Elizabeth Jane Peck, spinster.
