Life story

Life story

Jane was born in Edinburgh, the daughter of James and Jacobina. Her father was a bookseller. In 1871, the family were living in Wardie Ferry Road in Edinburgh, the same street as her future husband Charles Duncan. In 1878, James Braidwood was knocked down by an omnibus on The Mound in the city. He died after being taken to hospital. Jane married Charles Duncan in 1883 at St George's church, Edinburgh. The couple moved to Worthing, living at "Seaforth" in St Michael's Road. Mary Duncan, Charles' mother lived next door at "Rosetta". Charles and Jane had six children, Rosamund, Mabel, Constance, Charles, Winifred and Harold. Winifred died on 4th September 1893 aged 4 months and was buried at Heene. Jane died on 14th June 1904 . Probate was granted on 28th July to Charles Duncan gentleman. Effects £2476 3s 2d. re-sworn £2047 3s 2d.
