Life story

James Stenson was born in Devonshire, in 1867. He appears on the 1881 census, aged 13yrs, the son of Mary Stenson, 33yrs, a widow, running a lodging house in Chichester, Sussex. He had an older brother, William, born 1865.

James died on 11th September 1890, aged 23yrs. He was living at 3, Heene Cottages, Heene, Worthing, the occupier of the property (and informant on the death certificate) was a John Marsh.

James was a Fly Driver, (a Fly was a one horse, lightweight covered carriage, similar to a Handsome Cab, capable of moving very quickly).

His cause of death was acute pneumonia, phthisis (TB)
