Life story

Life story

Irene was born in Beckenham, daughter of Walter Bayne Davies and his wife Caroline Cecilia. She was baptised at Christ Church, Penge on 3rd May 1903. Irene's father was a tile merchant. By 1911, the family were living in Wallington in Surrey. In the summer of 1928, Irene married Charles William Gilbert Greenfield, the son of Nimshi and Eliza Greenfield of Thorn Road, Worthing. Charles was a chauffeur. The couple moved into a flat at 46 Rowlands Road. On 16th March 1932, Irene gave birth to a son Brian in Worthing Hospital. Sadly she died on 31st March of septicaemia. Her little son died a week later on 6th April. Mother and son were buried together. No probate.

Charles married again in 1938.
