Life story

Life story

Hubert was born in Sidcup, the son of Benjamin Ferrand and Frances Alford Davies. He was baptised at St John the Evangelist Church in Sidcup on 4 Sep. Hubert's father was a metal merchant and coal agent. The family lived in Chislehurst for a while. In 1886, Benjamin travelled to Tasmania but died shortly after arriving. His death certificate states that he died of heart disease. He left an estate of £6673 (approx. £442000 in 2020). Hubert's mother Frances moved to Worthing to live with her aunt Harriet Chubb, a widow of a wine merchant. Hubert died at "Woodview" St Botolph's Road on 30 May. His death certificate states that he died of pneumonia, phthisis and haemoptysis for 3 days (coughing blood). No probate.
